Elin is learning so many new things and understanding so much of what adults say. Yesterday, I said to her, "Elin lets change your diaper," and she ran over to her changing pad and sat down. She also likes us to read to her. She will go get a book and want to sit on our laps and read. She pays attention better and we make it to the end of even the longer books. We would go through all of her books multiple times a day if she had her way.
Elin's memory is getting longer too. For instance, Jason and I can say, "Elin where is your binky?" And she will always know where it is. Yesterday, she had been playing with mine and Jason's phones. After and hour or so, Jason couldn't find them and asked her where they were. She went directly to the couch, crouched down, lifted the flap and pulled out our phones! Jason was impressed! I read in a book recently that 13 month olds have memories as far back as a week.
Sign language has been very beneficial for all of us. Elin is able to let us knkow when she is hungry, wants more and wants milk. She also knows the sign for car. She is babbling a ton, but hasn't picked up more words. She repeats lots of words we say, but doesn't say it again after five minutes. There is one word she says all the time, but I can't figure out what it is - "chemmy." Is it "give me?" Or chewy the dog? I don't know!
